In sections limited to 15 students each, this course primarily provides systematic instruction and practice in reading and writing academic prose, with emphasis on argumentation. The course also provides instruction and practice in conducting research and in public speaking. Bilingual students and non-native speakers are especially encouraged to register for sections taught by Holly Davis. Priority will be given to incoming students in the fall-semester sections. Course may be repeated for credit with another instructor. We live in a world where everybody seems to be performing. We see this in the political arena and on reality TV shows. We see it on web-sites like You Tube and on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. In this class, we will look at how our lives have grown more performative in the advent of new concepts like "reality," "sincerity,""self," and "friend," and what that means for us as individuals and as a society. Enrollment limited to 15.
