Topics course. Same as SOC 314. This seminar explores theories of race and ethnicity, and the manner in which those theories have been confronted, challenged and/or assimilated by Latina/os in the United States. Special attention is paid to the relationship of Latina/os to the white/black dichotomy. A particular concern throughout the course is the theoretical and empirical relationship between Latina/o racial, national, class, gender and sexual identities. Students are expected to engage in extensive and intensive critical reading and discussion of course texts.
Topic: Latina/o Racial Identities in the United States. Instructor permission. Not open to first-years, sophomores
