Topics course. Writing gender history in a non-Western context: China, Japan and Korea from the 17th to the 20th century. How gender intersected with other categories of difference, including status, religion, region, nation, sexual orientation and age. Students pursue independent research projects relating to the early modern or modern periods. No specific prerequisites; students with background in history, East Asian studies, East Asian languages and literatures, or the Study of Women and Gender are all welcome.
