This course provides a broad introduction to the art of Japan from Neolithic times to the eighteenth century.  Focusing on masterworks of painting, sculpture, ceramics, Buddhist art, architecture, and prints, we explore the multifarious origins of Japanese art and put these works into a broader historical, political, and cultural context.  No prerequisites in art history or Japanese language are required. Group A
