Topics course. Students may take up to four semesters of ARH 280 Art Historical Studies, as long as the topics are different.: This colloquium explores Latin America’s designed objects and spaces of the twentieth century. In addition to material objects, we will investigate various design philosophies and strategies in the region, considering them within global design discourses. Through coursework and research we will engage in active knowledge production that will result in a publicly accessible web project, with the goal of achieving a greater understanding of Latin American design history. We will pay particular attention to the way Latin America design intersects which such themes as government involvement, gender, modernity versus tradition, and nationalism, among others.
