Topics course. Normally offered both fall and spring semesters.: This is an upper-level language course conducted within a cultural-historical framework. The objective is to develop students’ ability to express thoughts on more abstract and serious topics in German language by probing the discourse on war and peace in German culture from the 17th century to the present. We study the rhetoric of war and peace, discuss ideas and concepts put forth by famous German writers and artists such as Gryphius, Heine, Remarque, Kollwitz, Brecht, Böll, Bachmann. Conducted in German. Prerequisite: GER 250 or the equivalent, or permission of the instructor.
