An intermediate-level workshop in which writers develop their skills through intensive reading, writing, revising, and critique. Emphasis on narrative writing, broadly defined to include a variety of genres, depending on the interests of the current holder of the Lakes writing residency. Topic changes annually. Writing sample and permission of the instructor are required. Enrollment limited to 12: Throughout this course, we will examine and discuss influential Chicanx and Latinx storytellers and performers who use humor as their vehicles: Michele Serros, Adelina Anthony Marga Gomez, Cristela Alonzo, Monica Palacios, Jose Antonio Burciaga and others. Using these artists as inspiration, students will then focus on creating, shaping and critiquing their personal stories. Prerequisite: Writing sample required. Enrollment limit of 12. (E)
