By exploring crime films and crime shows, this course surveys how representations of crime on screen have changed since the beginning of the crime genre. While studying how culture affects the representations of crime on screen, we will also raise critical questions regarding representation of gender and race. Throughout this course, selected readings and screenings will move between films and TV shows and their socio-political context of production for a better and more comprehensive understanding of the evolution of crime genre.
