This course considers methodologies and thematic debates in modern historical writing about gender and sexuality, with a primary but not exclusive focus on European history. Students from all concentrations in the major are welcome and should expect to develop grounding in the significant historiographic trends and research topics in the history of women and gender. Readings include canonical and recent work in the history of gender and sexuality to help students place their own research questions in relationship to the field, taking into account related contemporaneous visual culture and literature.
