Topics course: This course will survey discussions of race in contemporary philosophy. We will examine issues such as whether races exist (Anthony Appiah), the status of mixed race people (Naomi Zackj), mixed race families (Sally Hasinger), race as a social construction (Ron Mallon), and racial realism (Joshua Glasgow). We will also look at treatments of race by philosophers in Brazil, South Africa, India, and Malaysia.
