Each topic focuses on a particular literary epoch, movement, genre or author from German literary culture. All sections taught in German.Normally offered each spring: Few writers had a greater impact on the shaping of German-language literature in the decades following World War II than the Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann (1928-1973). This seminar will examine a selection of her works (poetry, radio plays, short stories, novels, correspondences) as a barometer of the shifts in Central European culture after the devastation of the war and consider, among other things, her thoughts on the relationship between the writer, her writings and society.
