What can we learn about the Russian state and politics by looking at the Russian media? We examine the current state of Russia’s media landscape and the changes it underwent in the last decade. We will focus on different political forces in Russia and their relationship with the media. Who are the Russian “liberals”? How do Russian “liberal” media survive under Putin? Why did the Crimean annexation divide the Russian nationalists? We will look at examples of media texts and acquire skills in media analysis. Enrollment limited to 18. (E)
