The Covid19 pandemic has only deepened realizations about the world’s connectedness -- and structural inequalities. This course introduces students to a range of conceptual frameworks within global studies. Defining characteristics of “the global” -- as opposed to local, regional, communal, multidimensional, universal or even planetary -- are elucidated to provide common points of reference for scholarly understanding of the often vague or all-inclusive use of global as a descriptive attribute. In addition to Covid19, specific topics such as climate change, social media, race and ethnicity (personal identities), the climate emergency, and immigration and mobilities are discussed. S/U only.
