Topics course: Have you ever wondered how the techniques used in protein biochemistry and proteomics work? This seminar will examine how we know what we know about proteins. Principles of many fundamental methods in protein isolation, purification and analyses will be studied using primary literature on techniques and their applications in contractile protein systems as a common thread throughout. We will delve into theory and uses of spectroscopies, microscopies, electrophoreses, chromatographies, mass spectrometry. Throughout the semester students will select one protein and one technique to study in depth and will present a video or narrated slide show on them to the class. Prerequisite: BIO 202, 230 or permission of the Instructor
Instructor Permission Req. Not open to first-years, sophomores
Permission is required for interchange registration during all registration periods.
