Tourism, one of the largest and most lucrative world industries, is an ever growing paradox for individuals and cultures alike. While tourism provides a significant source of economic development in many countries, it often serves to further disenfranchise many people, especially those in the service economy. This class will consider different forms of tourism and the impact they have not only on economics and politics but on ethical questions that address issues of equity, gender, race, class and climate change.
