Government 291 - Colloquium: Government Lab: Designing and Conducting Research

This course will introduce students to the basic building blocks of political science research, including developing a research question; conducting a literature review; defining concepts; selecting cases; and presenting results. While students will read and discuss exemplary research in American and comparative politics and international relations, the course will focus on "learning by doing" via a series of short projects driven by students’ interests. This course is primarily intended for students who are considering writing an honors thesis or special studies in government, attending graduate school, or pursuing research opportunities after graduation. At least two prior government courses strongly recommended. Enrollment limited to 24. Instructor permission required.
