This course centers a critical approach to studying education through feminist and decolonial perspectives. Drawing on the interdisciplinary understandings that have been advanced through these movements students will: (1) analyze education as a global phenomenon and its social purpose, (2) identify structural inequalities in education, and (3) consider how to address the legacy of colonialism in educational systems. Students will study the social construction of identity, nations, languages and knowledge to deconstruct personal and collective experiences with education while centering the embodied and material dimensions of learning. Enrollment limited to 25. (E)
