This course explores how Francophone African women writers from the 20th and 21st centuries address identity, gender, race, migration, female body, and sociocultural norms. Through texts set in Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, students examine female protagonists navigating gender roles, exclusion, sexuality, and otherness across shifting cultural and social contexts in their pursuit of identity. How are female protagonists portrayed as navigating identity shifts in response to migration, racial dynamics, gender roles, and sociocultural expectations in Francophone African female narratives?
