Games have been part of human culture for thousands of years. From classroom learning in early education to training simulations for heavy machinery or flight, to therapeutic environments, games and interactive systems can be found in almost every aspect of our lives. This course examines how to effectively start developing games, from concept through documentation, prototyping, and playtesting. Students look at the games they grew up with, the games they play today, and the games that do not, on the surface, seem like games, and consider how to develop a variety of games through to a final small-group project that is a playable prototype in analog or digital format. Enrollment limited to 30. (E)
