This course focuses on workflow and techniques for creating polygonal surface models, basic materials, basic lighting, and rendering for creating assets for digital games, animation, time-based media, and 3D printing. Students are introduced to and practice 3D modeling in Autodesk Maya, the industry standard for 3D Animation for animation, film, and digital games. This course focuses on poly resource management, modeling workflow, and creation of 3D assets from conception and reference art through modeling, simple UVW Unwrapping, basic materials, lighting, and rendering. Students learn the necessary tools and techniques for the majority of surface modeling. Projects progress in complexity, building on previous work. Enrollment limited to 30. (E)
