Latin American Studies 201pp - Colloquium: Topics in Latin American and Latino/a/x Studies-Perreo & Politics: Bad Bunny's Cultural Impact

This course examines the music of Bad Bunny as a point of departure for developing skills as close listeners attentive to how cultural production creates interpretive avenues for understanding how aesthetics, history, and politics intersect. Discussions include the history of Puerto Rico and its colonial past and present (tourism, debt crisis, hurricanes); the evolution of musical forms (ie. trap, reggaeton) and their travels across the Americas; and the Puerto Rican diaspora in New York City.
