Exercise physiology is the study of the body’s responses to physical activity acutely and how it adapts over time. The cardiovascular, metabolic, pulmonary, neuromuscular, endocrine, and immune systems are among those that are involved in regulating responses to physical activity. In this course, students learn, examine, and interpret these responses using hands-on tools and testing procedures from the field.  These include blood pressure, electrocardiogram, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, neuromuscular function, and pulmonary function. Aspects of clinical exercise physiology are also addressed. This course is especially relevant to pre-health students and counts toward the major in biological sciences. Prerequisite: BIO 200 or ESS 260 or equivalent. Enrollment limited to 15.
