This course is concerned with the ways in which the Constitution protects individual rights against the often-competing claims of state, groups, and communities. The course examines rights claims related to property, privacy, and personhood; First Amendment protections regarding speech and religion; and equal protection of the laws based on race, gender, age, wealth, etc. Designation: American.
