This is a group ensemble course intended as a continuation of MUS 904 at an intermediate level. Classroom activities include group warm ups and drills of the basic building blocks of music theory such as scales, rhythms, and sight reading, in addition to repertoire interests of the students enrolled. Students learn how to actively listen to one another while playing independent parts in a group setting. Students discuss and put into practice the various elements of collaborating through chamber music. Listening assignments highlight the versatility of violin playing across genres and throughout many time periods. In addition to the 100-minute weekly class meetings, students are expected to spend 4 hours devoted to individual practice and listening assignments per week. Prerequisite: Any one topic of MUS 100 and MUS 904. Enrollment limited to 8.
