Technique will include tap rudiments, double-time paddle and roll patterns, time steps with various breaks, traveling steps, and challenging rhythmic combinations. Students will learn 2-3 dances from the traditional repertory of tap. There will be opportunities to perform those dances in community outreach performances in the area. Taking advantage of the live piano accompaniment for the course, students will also explore beginning tap improvisation to unleash creativity and enhance musical listening skills. Even though this course is taught at the Beginning-Advanced Beginning level, students are required to have previous dance experience. Ability to execute basic tap steps is also advised, as this will not be an introductory or basic course.
Students must have flat-soled shoes. Not sure about where to get shoes or which ones to choose, or need more information about the requirements for the course? Please contact instructor: sharonarslanian@yahoo.com.
