Dance 496Y - IS-Arts in India Study & Tour

Alankara: Arts in India study and tour is a unique 3-credit course offered over two semesters. In the fall semester, seminars will be offered to prepare students for travel to India through readings, viewing of audio-visual materials and guest presentations. These sessions will play a crucial role in the introduction, appreciation and understanding of India's arts & culture, people and society.

Students are required to enroll in the course in the Fall Semester to be eligible for the travel-study in January 2013. For more information please contact devi@admin.umass.edu

Fall and Spring semesters with Jan term tour. Students enrolled will be required to participate in Fall seminars and write papers, travel on the study tour to India in January, complete or write new assignments with an open presentation to receive a grade. Grades will be assigned after the completion of the two terms - Fall 2012 and Spring 2013.

Costs for January 1 - 13, 2013 tour will be $2000 (Covers domestic airfare, coach travel, hotel rooms, 3 meals per day, tickets to shows, museums, historic places etc.) plus international airfare. Students will cover costs for visas, getting a passport and any/all personal expenses.

To get the best International airfare, we are requiring a deposit of $500 by June 15, 2012. Other payment deadlines will be announced later. Itinerary for tour travel will be given in class meetings.
