Open to Graduate students only. In this course we examine how the development of U.S. political institutions have shaped and constrained its politics and policymaking. We explore the extent to which enduring patterns in American politics reflect founding choices. Further, we will consider the forces, including social movements, that reinforce or, more rarely, destabilize those patterns
