Lecture: For nonscience majors. Introduction to the physical characteristics of the earth, moon, planets, asteroids and comets, their motions and gravitational interactions. Recent discoveries of space probes relative to formation of the solar system and origin of life. Lab: Multiple sections. For nonscience students. Introduction to the night sky, telescopes, astronomical events, and celestial maps. Visual and telescopic observations of the constellations, moon, planets, stars, and other interesting astronomical objects. Attendance required.(Gen.Ed. PS)

This is a 4-Credit course. Juniors and Seniors who wish to take this class for 3-credits should register in Astron 190Y.

A good understanding of high school algebra is required. Attendance is mandatory at the first two class sessions. Enrolled students who fail to show up may be dropped from class. Students who wish to enroll but are restricted from enrolling on Spire may speak with the Instructor after class.

Students enrolled in Astron 101 should not enroll in Astron 190Z. Students enrolled in Astron 101 and 190Z will be dropped out of one of the classes.

Multiple required components--lab and/or discussion section. To register, submit requests for all components simultaneously.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
