History 355 - The Caribbean

Survey of the history of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Puerto Rico from the 15th century to the present. Topics include conquest and settlement, independence and colonialism, North American intervention, 20th century dictators, and political and social revolution. Comparisons will be drawn between the Caribbean zone and the rest of Latin America.
