This course requires a group trip to Sicily during spring break in March. Students will learn about travel writing and cultural reporting. Photography will be taught by an experienced photographer, including digital photography using Photoshop. A photo essay and a travel article are required along with several readings. Students are required to eat weird food with a smile. Sign-up in fall semester is required.
Open to Journalism majors only. Students must apply for this Spring semester course and be accepted by Nov. 10, 2013.

To be enrolled in this Spring semester course, students must apply, be accepted and pay for travel associated with a required trip to Sicily, which will take place during Spring recess in March 2014. Please contact Richard Newton for details at: rnewton@tei.umass.edu.

After spring recess the class will split. Photographers will continue to meet in FAC 444 and writers will meet in Bartlett 207.
