Students in this doctoral-level course will develop a solid understanding of the school mathematics curriculum from an historical perspective. Students will become familiar with the key issues and forces that have influenced mathematics curriculum change from about 1890 to 2010 and become knowledgeable of the major reports, conferences, and curriculum development efforts that have provided direction for and trends in school mathematics. The course will explore issues of the ideal curriculum, intended curriculum, enacted curriculum and attained curriculum, with particular emphasis on the ideal and intended curriculum during significant periods of mathematics curriculum history.
