This course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Iraqi Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. The focus is on practical everyday conversation and listening comprehension. Students studying Iraqi Arabic develop skills needed for research and work in Iraq and to support course work in Middle Eastern and International Studies.
Before enrolling in an Arabic dialect course, students are required to have completed the equivalent of one year of elementary Modern Standard Arabic.
