Illustrate the remarkable power of patient advocacy and the power individuals can have when they work together. In the United States, a rare disease is defined as having less than 200,000 cases, together there are over 7,000 such conditions that impact nearly 30 million Americans and millions more worldwide! This seminar will explore how patients have worked with allies in government, the medical community, industry, and their counterparts internationally, to improve the lives of the individuals living with these complex medical conditions. We will explore the tools necessary for impactful patient advocacy and successful community collaboration through the lens of the lens of the rare disease community.
Open to freshman Public Health, Nutrition, Kinesiology, and Communication Disorders students only.
