This seminar will provide evidence-based research regarding how technology can be used to change behavior. While the focus will be on changing physical activity and sedentary behavior, students will also learn how these technologies can be applied to other behaviors of interest (e.g., diet, alcohol intake). Examples of the technologies students will learn about include: 1) Internet based interventions including the use of social networking 2) Smart phones and tablets including the use of apps and texting, 3) Interactive video games including the Wii and Xbox connect, and 4) Consumer activity trackers. There will be a hands-on component to this seminar where students will utilize one of these technologies to try to change their own behavior.
Open to Public Health, Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Communication Disorders majors and students in the Public Health Exploratory Track.
