This 1-credit, pass/fail course will focus on grants as an important mechanism for financing organizations, while also examining additional fundraising strategies that range from private donations to crowdsourcing to social impact investing. Topics addressed in the course will include: the funding ?pyramid,? useful philanthropy and grant seeking, communicating with program officers and potential donors, effective writing strategies for different funding audiences, understanding the proposal review process, developing effective proposal budgets, ethical considerations in fundraising, and stewarding donations and awards. Students will have the chance (and be expected) to work on a crowdsourcing campaign, a mock grant proposal, or another fundraising or related project developed by the instructor.
Open to Masters Public Policy & Admin (MPPA) and Public Policy (MPP) students only. MPP/MPPA students only and others by instructor permission.
