This course explores globalization, law, and social change through themes such as colonialism, nationalism, censorship, freedom of information, democratic movements and the relationship between the global North and South. These themes will guide us in understanding how and why entire regions are pulled into maelstroms of social change,
redefinition and revolution. The movements we will focus on are Occupy Wall Street, Arab Spring and Wikileaks. The central questions this class will raise are: what role does globalization play in people's movements; does global law impact the autonomy of nations and social groups to revolt in search of other structural options; and finally, how has globalization impacted these three movements differently?
