This two-semester, 8-credit Capstone Course will explore the intersections of food, community, identity and justice from a wide variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives, and will teach students community based research skills toward their culminating thesis project. The course is open to all (honors and not honors) senior students interested in food issues and who have the desire and ability to conduct a yearlong research project. By the end of the semester, students will develop a draft of their rationale, literature review and methods for their thesis project based on course readings, discussion and initial work on community based projects. In the Spring semester students will continue engage in research with the partner organizations. Also, students will conduct their thesis research projects, including their data collection analysis, and write-up. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BA-Comm majors.
Open to Senior Honors students and Communication Senior Honors students. Instructor Consent Required. Professor Cooks can be contacted by email at leda@comm.umass.edu.
Permission is required for interchange registration during all registration periods.
