With the population of the United States moving steadily towards cities and surrounding areas, the benefits of urban and community trees are becoming increasingly important. Though trees are a common sight in many cities, an urban setting can be a very difficult environment for trees to survive in. During the course of the seminar we will explore the environmental and social benefits that urban trees provide, the challenges that trees face in an urban environment, and basic management tools and principles that can be employed by everyone from individual citizens to tree care professionals to maximize the contribution of trees to sustainable urban environments for future generations.
