This course is the first in a two-semester series fulfilling the honors capstone thesis requirement. Wearable technologies are now widely used by researchers, practitioners and the lay public to a track a variety of free-living physical activity and health parameters in real time. The market for fitness and health-related apps is large and growing. There will be continued need to expose students to these technologies and their possible applications. This course is designed to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge related to using wearable technologies as an objective way to monitor individuals? physical activity in the laboratory and free-living environments. Students will learn about pedometers, accelerometers, and other wearable technologies for assessing physical activity in conjunction with traditional laboratory/clinical metabolic, anthropometric, and health assessments. Students will also learn about human subjects' related research and best practices and the behavioral theory that is the foundation for using wearable technologies to increase physical activity behaviors.
This course is open to Senior Commonwealth College students only. No pre-requisites, open to all disciplines. Application and in-person interview required to receive enrollment permission from instructor.

This course requires a Sem and lab- 3 hours/week required commitment for a semester total of 36 tracked hours.1 1/2 hours on Tuesday for Seminar and 1 1/2 hours on Thursday for Lab
Permission is required for interchange registration during all registration periods.
