Public health is an incredibly broad and diverse field - one that is constantly evolving to address the health issues that face humans across the globe. Finding your "niche" in public health requires some exploration, taking advantage of opportunities, and planning for the future. Using the Common Read book, "Make Your Home Among Strangers," by Jennine Capo Crucet as a guide, we will explore different areas of public health, such as nutrition, physical activity, community health, and health policy. This course will connect these different public health issues that appear in the book to current events facing the world today. Ultimately, the goal of this course is to expose students to different potential avenues of public health, and the opportunities and resources available at UMass in order to maximize their success in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences and beyond. Our class will have a close connection to the Common Read program - embracing the book, Make Your Home Among Strangers, by Jennine Capo Crucet. Students will participate in a variety of activities including meeting the author!
Open to students in PHHS Connect RAP in Emerson Hall.
