Art History 391E - S-Art & Science/Early Mod Euro

In this course we will look at original prints, from woodcuts and engravings to digital prints. The emergence and development of print in Europe since the fifteenth century (long after its development in Asia) has often been called a revolution, similar in scope and impact to the digital revolution we live through today. Looking at original prints in the excellent collections at Amherst College and Smith College we will examine great moments in the history of this medium from past to present.
