This course traces the development of European art, beginning with Rococo and Neoclassicism in the second half of the eighteenth century, and moving on to Romanticism, Realism, the transformation of grand history painting tradition, and the emergence of modernism in the nineteenth century. We will examine major artists and art movements in Europe with an emphasis on French painting, drawing, prints, and sculpture.
Open to Graduate students in Art History only.
