This course is designed to allow you to engage with the methods of qualitative and quantitative research, to examine the possible research questions different methods allow, to understand both the limits and the potential of various methods, to be able to conceptualize and execute a research project and apply its methods, and also to reflect on the role of Communication research and the ways it helps us to know ourselves and to know the world. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BA-Comm majors.
Open to Senior and Junior Communication majors only. This course was designed as a 4-credit course and includes the work of a 4 credit course. However, due to an administrative error, it is currently only listed as 3 credits on SPIRE. Since it has not yet received final approval for 4 credits, all students enrolled in this class will be enrolled in an additional 1-credit Independent Study at the end of Add & Drop. If approval for the 4 credits is granted prior to the end of Add & Drop, students will automatically receive the 4 credits. If you have any questions, please contact Prof. West at ewest@comm.umass.edu. This course serves as an Integrative Experience (IE) requirement for BA-COMM majors.
Multiple required components--lab and/or discussion section. To register, submit requests for all components simultaneously.
