How computers work, including digital logic, arithmetic, data path, and memory. Students build circuits with prototyping boards; program microcontrollers in assembly language and C to work with various I/O devices. Honors section provides opportunity to work at a deeper level with hardware.
Open to sophomore, junior, and senior Computer Science majors in Commonwealth Honors College. COMPSCI 220 or 230w/C HONORS COLLOQUIUM INCLUDED. STUDENTS NEEDING SPECIAL PERMISSION MUST REQUEST OVERRIDES VIA THE ON-LINE FORM: https://www.cs.umass.edu/overrides.
Multiple required components--lab and/or discussion section. To register, submit requests for all components simultaneously.
