English 355 - Creative Writing Fiction

A seminar in writing short stories and other fiction for students who demonstrate familiarity with the basis of scene and story. Students write regularly, read and criticize one another's writing, read in contemporary fiction. Prerequisite: ENGLISH 354 with a grade of 'B' or better.

Open to English majors only. Pre Req: ENGLISH 354 w/B Students should submit a 5- to 7-page sample of fiction prose for review. Submission deadline is November 15th. Registration after this date is possible, but priority will be given to students who meet the November 15th deadline. Students will be notified of their status by December 10th. Registration by department permission only.Please indicate whether the submission is a complete story or an excerpt of a longer work. In addition, submit a 1-page statement discussing the authors or texts that most influence your writing, and any literary traditions you see yourself engaging.
