This course, open to both advanced undergraduate and to graduate students, surveys Medieval cantigas and historiagrafia; works by playwright Gil Vicente; literary representations of the story of Ines de Castro; the epic and lyric poetry of Camres; and the travel literature inspired by the Portuguese Expansion starting in 1415 and culminating in the loss of Portuguese Independence to Spain in 1580, the year of Camres' death.
