This course is designed to enhance students' development as effective helping professionals. Class time will involve in-depth analyses of the work each student is doing in a concurrent community placement. Students will be expected to present regularly, and to actively participate in discussions of what elements characterize effective clinical work.
Open to Senior and Junior Psychology majors only. Pre Req: PSYCH 241 & 380 Students must be concurrently enrolled in a community practicum (internship), either Psych 398F or UMass 298Y, of at least 3 credits, to be sponsored by this course's instructor. All interested students should email Prof. Marian L. MacDonald (macdonal@psych.umass.edu) for more information about acceptable internship sites and course requirements PRIOR to enrolling. For a more detailed description of the course and requirements than what appears below, please see our website here: http://www.psych.umass.edu/department_course_offerings/spring-course-descriptions/.

Each student taking PSY 391CS must also be taking a practicum course (an internship as either PSY 398F or UMass 298Y) for 3 pass/fail credits. This will involve working 9 hours a week in a community mental health agency under the supervision of paid agency staff with the 391CS instructor as UMass faculty sponsor. Students obtain practicum placements by applying to Agencies directly, and it is optimal to arrange them by the end of the semester prior to the term they are taking PSY 391CS. Agencies searching for Interns may be found by going to Career Services (Room 511 in Goodell), using this website (http://www.umass.edu/careers/internships/search), or emailing the course instructor.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
