This course explores soccer around the world and its impact on local, national and the global economy. Students will study how the modern game has evolved at both club and national levels, paying specific attention to the financial impact of the major European leagues and the economic implications of European football competitions such as the UEFA Champions league. A comparison will be made of the European league model of promotion and regulation vs. the U.S. model currently used in MLS.
Students should have a general understanding of soccer prior to taking course.
