This course builds on the basics students master in Sound Design I. They acquire advanced experience with digital processing (including EQ, compression and reverb) and of audio hardware (including microphones, mixers and loudspeakers). They continue to practice their creative design work with assignments and projects, and to develop their skill with Logic Pro X and Qlab. They learn how to design sound systems and produce the documentation required to build and maintain those systems. They will understand the physical characteristics and behavior of sound. Participation in a collaboration with other student designers and directors culminates in a fully designed show that is teched and performed at the end of the semester.
Open to Theater majors only. THEATER 160 & 393S Coursework and production experience allow students to use their existing knowledge and their new skills to create more complex, artistically developed designs that incorporate both sound and music as well as sound system design. The course provides many opportunities to practice interpersonal and group communication.
