In this course, we will explore
topics covered by the premier science magazine Scientific American that students and the instructor find most relevant to today?s society in this country and around the world. These could be related, but not limited, to health, agriculture, environment and sustainability. Each topic will be led by one, or a team of two, students who will center the
discussion based on a particular article, or one or more images, or a video, that most vividly reflect the elements of the topic that they would like to highlight. Instructor will start the course by leading the first topic discussion, to illustrate one format that these discussions might be organized. Students will also be encouraged to develop their own discussion format. The goal is to acquire appreciation of why science is relevant to us as individuals and to society and the world at large.
